Nature Bingo

My sister-in-law and I took the kids on a nature hunt around the neighborhood. The children enjoyed finding things on our list and marking them off. We have been reading stories from the Magic Tree House series and told the kids that this was a mission from Morgan Le Fay. At the end, they were all awarded master librarian cards just like Jack and Annie.

A month of visitors!

March was a busy month! We had my grandparents visit as well as my sister-in-law and her family. It was a wonderful month!

My grandparents joined us for a trip to the livestock show and on a trip to see the Alamo. Great Grandpa read and told many stories and Great Grandma played Legos and foam-doh with the boys. It was such a warm and enriching visit!

New Playroom

This is our new playroom. It used to be Ian's room but now the boys are sharing a room so this makes a perfect room for them to play in! It has five play stations; blocks, reading, kitchen, restaurant, and workshop.

A few more photos of our classroom. This is where we snuggle up for story time and reading lessons. The white board is a huge hit with the kids! They love to write on it as well as see everything I post for the days activities. The furniture is our old living room furniture that we have had since we got married back in 1999!

"school" room

Here are some photos of our newly organized home school classroom. It is located in the upstairs game room and works nicely for our purpose. In the first picture you can see the nice activity table that I bought used for $20! I am still excited about that purchase!
In the second photo is where we have our circle time and do our map activities. The rolled up green yoga mats have a duel purpose; they use them for stretching and tumbling as well as for individual play.
The third photo show our new writing center and language arts center. My wonderful sister-in-law is the genius who gave me this idea, thanks Rebecca!
The last photo show another storage area with our calendar above it. The top of the storage area doubles as our exploration shelf. Last month we had insects, magnifying glasses, and an insect identification book. This month we have our magnets out to explore and next month we will have seashells and other sea life to get us ready for our trips to the beach this year!

Magnets

The boys are learning about the magical world of magnetism! They never get tired of watching the objects fly toward the magnet! In the fourth picture, Ian discovered that he can "magically" turn the page if you put a paper clip under it!

We did a unit on butterflies which included stories, art, writing, language, and science.
It was such a fun week that ended with a trip to the butterfly center!

Math Game
We got this great game at Lakeshore Learning. It gives various word problems and lets the child figure out how many cars belong on each street.

Graphing Gummy Bears!
The boys wanted to do this activity again so we reviewed Goldilocks and the three bears by performing a play. When we finished the boys sat at the table for this fun math lesson!
